Today we had a game as one of our Mother Goose Time activities! X really enjoys the games we get each month. Bingo and Domino’s have been 2 of his favorites. Today our game was about phonics, letter Identification and sight words. The directions were simple, which I appreciated since he was going to be putting so much brain work into identifying the letters and words. The great thing about this game is its very flexible for the child’s level. It can be used as just color recognition if that’s what the child is working on, or it can be expanded to be more challenging!
The bright colors and fun animals make it even more engaging. Honestly I thought X would be able to match the letters but he surprised me by really understanding the phonics aspect. We discussed how Rat, Cat, Mat and Sat all ended with the same sound and only had a different beginning letter. He took it a step further and added Bat to the list! I love seeing how perceptive he is to these concepts right now! I would have never introduce this concept right now if it weren’t for our awesome MGT curriculum.
I always introduce all of the concepts and ideas in the curriculum, exactly for sittuations like today. If he’s not receptive to the concept right now, we just move on, I don’t push it. But he often really surprises me with what he understands.
This game is definitely a keeper for us. I’ll be laminating tell pieces this week to help preserve them as I’m sure he’ll be asking for this fun, quick game often.
I received this month’s Mother Goose Time curriculum free of charge in exchange for sharing our experience and my opinions. All content and opinions are 100% mine and truly honest.
